2019 tv sheep info day roaring success

Last Friday was one of the best sheep information days I have been to. Admittedly it was held on our property at “Valera”, Lockhart but with a crowd of over 140 people all interested in what the sheep industry has in store for us in the near future and how we can use all of these tools to make the most from our sheep.

Four wonderful speakers Dr. Andrew Thompson – Murdoch Uni spoke on feed efficiency research being done in the west with results that will change the way we breed our sheep. His second subject was joining lamb ewes which was a very interactive session with many from the crowd adding to the discussion.

The following session was a jointly lead by Darren Gordon – Livestock Logistics Hamilton and Ricky Luhrs – Sheep Breeder, Cavendish on Containment Areas. Which has been a very apt topic around the country since the drought has bitten over the past few years. Saving you feed for times of need and saving your top soil. Trigger Vale are in the process of designing a new containment area which we have decided to use regularly. Keeping your country and your sheep healthy. Once again we all learnt a lot from the discussion being so interactive.

Our final speaker was Dr Mark Ferguson – Nextgen New Zealand who summed the day up by telling us what we have got to look forward to in the future, and also maybe which direction we should be taking our breeding flock. All of the sessions were followed by Andrew Bouffler with snippets of how this fits in with the Trigger Vale Breeding Program.

Thankyou to all of the attendees you guys really made the day having so many like minded sheep enthusiasts in one place was amazing. Even though it is hard work organising these events and at the time you say never again I am ready to go again in two years time. Hope to see you all again. Thankyou to the hard working Urangeline Hall Committee for their fabulous catering,of course the speakers for their words of wisdom and to the sponsors of the day Elders, Delta, Francis’s and Rabo.
